Unity Advances Its Commitment to Ethical AI Development Tools
Unity continues to expand its AI development tools, unveiling Muse's early access at the Unite event. Despite controversy surrounding AI in game development, Unity remains committed to integrating AI-powered features, emphasizing responsible sourcing and transparency. Muse, a suite of AI-driven features, aims to assist users by generating content using artificial intelligence. In an interview, Unity Create's president Marc Whitten emphasized the company's goal to support developers while keeping them in control. Muse's initial features include Muse Chat, Muse Sprite, and Muse Texture, with upcoming tools such as Muse Animate, Muse Behaviour, and Muse Sketch. Unity also plans to launch Unity Sentis, allowing programmers to embed AI models with their games or apps. To address concerns about AI-trained datasets, Whitten explained that Muse Sprite and Muse Texture are trained on data and images owned or licensed by Unity, ensuring safe and copyright-free outputs. The company is focused on delivering tools that are easy to use, responsibly sourced, and provide confident outputs for creators. Unity will also indemnify developers using the Muse tools. The debate around AI in game development has sparked concerns about job replacement, but Whitten reassured that Unity's goal is to keep creators in control, providing tools to aid when needed. The company aims to deepen its commitment to game development, listening to the community's challenges and providing solutions, as evident in the upcoming launch of Unity 6.
