Announcing the 2023 Canada GamesIndustry.biz Best Places To Work Awards Winners
The wait is over, and we are delighted to announce the winners of the 2023 Canada GamesIndustry.biz Best Places To Work Awards. These prestigious awards aim to make the games industry a more enjoyable and rewarding place to work, with the winners determined by a comprehensive employee survey. Nearly 50 Canadian games companies participated, resulting in 15 well-deserved winners. Electronic Arts emerged as the biggest winner, with three of its teams - Cliffhanger Games, Ripple Effect, and Maxis - receiving awards. All winning companies are now eligible to display the coveted Best Places To Work Awards badge. The winners are categorized into three groups: small companies (10-50 staff) such as A Shell in the Pit, Alpha Channel Inc, and Borealys Games; mid-sized companies (50-200 employees) including Compulsion Games and Full Circle; and large companies (200+ employees) like Behaviour Interactive and Eidos-Montréal. Each participant underwent a rigorous judging process, which included an employer form assessing factors like pay, holiday, benefits, and social activities, accounting for 20% of the final score. The remaining 80% was based on an employee survey covering topics such as work environment, work-life balance, management, diversity, and more. Additional checks were performed to identify any issues that might affect a small number of employees, including discrimination and crunch. All participants will receive a report highlighting their scores and areas for improvement, and participation in the awards is completely free. These awards follow the US and UK awards, which took place last month and in September, respectively.
