Roblox CTO Discusses AI Integration and Its Impact on the Creator Economy
The ninth annual Roblox Developers Conference is underway in San Francisco, marking the platform's arrival on PlayStation and its full launch on Meta Quest. Key announcements include the introduction of Roblox Connect, an immersive 3D communication experience, and Roblox Assistant, a conversational AI tool designed to aid creators. In an interview, CTO Daniel Sturman highlighted the potential of Roblox Assistant to accelerate the creative process, enabling users to generate complex scenes and behaviors with ease. Sturman emphasized the importance of opt-in data sharing and respecting creators' rights, particularly when it comes to AI training data. The company is also exploring ways to address moderation challenges, including the use of real-time voice moderation and AI-powered content flagging. When asked about the potential impact of AI-generated content on the creator economy, Sturman expressed confidence in the ability of human creativity and innovative ideas to drive value, rather than manual labor or price competition. Other updates include new tools for developers to create subscriptions and an updated Creator Marketplace with improved revenue sharing and US dollar transactions.
