European Gaming Industry Sees Significant Growth in Revenue and Workforce
The European gaming industry has experienced substantial growth, with revenues reaching €24.5 billion in 2022, according to a report by Video Games Europe. This represents a 5% increase from the previous year, with console games accounting for 42% of the revenue, followed by mobile games at 42%, and PC games at 13%. The number of people employed in the industry has also risen to 110,000 across ten selected markets, a 12.2% increase from 2021. The report highlights that 126.5 million people played video games in Europe in 2022, with 53% of the population aged six to 64 engaging in gaming. The average age of European gamers is 32, with older gamers making up the largest portion of the audience. The report also notes that 59 million women account for 46.7% of European game players, with an average age of 33 and playing 7.5 hours per week. The time spent playing video games per week has returned to pre-pandemic levels, with the average gamer spending 8.8 hours per week playing games.
