Hogwarts Legacy and Diablo 4 Dominate European Gaming Charts for the First Half of the Year
The European gaming market experienced a marginal increase in sales during the first half of the year, with 76.1 million console and PC games sold. The UK led the way with 15.3 million games sold, marking a 5.5% rise from the previous year. Germany and France followed, with 14 million and 11.1 million games sold, respectively. Notably, physical game sales declined by 9% year-on-year, while digital downloads saw a 7% increase. Hogwarts Legacy emerged as the best-selling game for the first half of the year, with sales 69% higher than Elden Ring's performance during the same period in 2022. Diablo 4 also made a strong debut, securing the third spot despite only being on sale for a few weeks. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and FIFA 23 also performed well, with the latter's sales rising by 24% compared to the previous year. The top 20 games in Europe for the first half of the year were dominated by major brands, with Hogwarts Legacy leading the pack.
