European Video Game Sales Surge 20% in June, Driven by Diablo 4

According to the latest data from GSD, a total of 15.5 million games were sold across Europe in June, with 5 million coming from physical retail and 10.5 million from digital download stores. This represents a 20% increase over the same period last year, driven by several major new releases. Diablo 4 was the top-selling game of the month, also becoming the second fastest-selling game of the year, behind Hogwarts Legacy. The game's launch was the largest in June since the GSD charts began in 2017, with over 66% of sales coming from PC, 21% from PS5, and 9% from Xbox Series S and X. In terms of other new releases, Final Fantasy 16 came in second, although its launch was 24% down compared to the last major Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy 7: Remake. The official racing game F1 23 had a disappointing launch, with sales down almost 47% compared to F1 22. Street Fighter 6 also made an appearance in the June charts, with over 51% of its sales coming from PS5. Looking at the sales of these new releases, 80% came from digital download stores. The PS5 was the top-selling console in Europe, with sales up 116%, while the Switch saw a slight decline and Xbox Series S and X sales remained relatively flat. The DualSense controller was the top-selling accessory, with sales up 6.6% over last year. Overall, 1.46 million accessories and toys-to-life products were sold, representing a 5.4% increase over June 2022.
