UK's Sixth Highest-Grossing Video Game Franchise: Star Wars

With the impending launch of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, marking the 119th Star Wars video game since 1993, the franchise's average release rate is nearly four games per year over the last three decades, according to Dorian Bloch, GfK's games lead. This surpasses other notable IPs, including Mario and The Sims. Data compiled from GfK, Gallup, and Chart-Track reveals that physical Star Wars video games have generated £492 million in sales since 1995, securing the sixth position among the UK's biggest video game IPs, surpassing Pokémon but trailing the LEGO franchise. The best-selling Star Wars game launch occurred in 2015 with EA's Star Wars Battlefront, which sold over twice as many copies as the previous top-seller, The Force Unleashed, released in 2008. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor aims to outperform its predecessor, Fallen Order, currently in sixth place, and potentially rank within the top five when including digital sales. Although Star Wars game releases have slowed in recent years, they often achieve significant success upon launch, as seen with last year's LEGO Star Wars game, which became the fourth largest Star Wars launch of all time.
