Skybound Expands Beyond the Undead
As the owner of The Walking Dead franchise, Skybound has long been associated with the undead, but the company is now looking to broaden its horizons. CEO David Alpert has been working with the undead for 13 years and expects to continue doing so, but he's also keen to explore other opportunities. The Walking Dead now accounts for less than half of Skybound's business, with the company having expanded into other properties and media forms. One key moment in this shift was the launch of the animated series Invincible on Amazon Prime Video in 2021, which was renewed for two more seasons. Skybound has also partnered with Audible on scripted podcasts, including Impact Winter, and is working with Universal Pictures on the Nicolas Cage film Renfield. The company's gaming division has also exceeded expectations, with 80+ staff and a number of successful titles, including the BAFTA-winning Before Your Eyes. Skybound co-chair Jon Goldman notes that the company is now an emerging leader in the video game space, and is committed to doing what's best for its fans. The company has also invested in Mega Cat Studios, which is working on the pro wrestling RPG WrestleQuest, and has opened up a retail investing platform to allow fans to invest in the company. With over $13 million raised so far, Skybound is looking to the future and is committed to delivering what its fans want, whether that's through games, TV shows, podcasts, or other forms of entertainment.
