UK Monthly Charts: PS5 Sees Significant Sales Boost in January, Despite Decline in Game Sales

According to the latest data from GSD, the UK video game market saw 2.24 million units sold in January, representing a slight decrease of 4.4% compared to the same period last year. This decline is largely attributed to the absence of a significant game release in January this year, unlike in 2022 when Pokémon Legends: Arceus launched. FIFA 23 took the top spot, with sales surpassing those of FIFA 22 in January last year. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 also experienced increased sales compared to the previous year, ranking second and fourth, respectively. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 secured the third position, although its sales have slowed down more rapidly than its predecessors, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and the previous Modern Warfare title. The Dead Space remake, released by EA, debuted at number six, with a limited sales window. Fire Emblem Engage and Forspoken followed at numbers 12 and 16, respectively. In terms of console sales, the PS5 saw a substantial 98% increase in January, driven by the success of the God of War Ragnarok editions, which accounted for 55% of PS5 sales volume. The Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, continued to experience slowing sales as it approaches its sixth anniversary, with 61% of sales attributed to the OLED version.
