Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Nears Vanguard's Lifetime Sales in Just Two Weeks
The European video game market saw 11.9 million units sold last month, driven by the resurgence of Call of Duty. According to the latest GSD data, the industry experienced a 1.5% increase in sales compared to October of the previous year, with 6.84 million games sold digitally and a 13% decline in physical retail sales. The strong performance of new titles like FIFA and Call of Duty contributed to the rise in digital downloads. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 topped the charts, surpassing FIFA 23 in its first week and achieving 125% higher sales than Call of Duty: Vanguard in the same period last year. After just two weeks, Modern Warfare 2 is on the verge of outselling Vanguard's lifetime sales in European markets and has become the third best-selling game of the year, behind Elden Ring. FIFA 23 had a strong month as well, with sales up 4% compared to the previous year's FIFA 22. Other new releases, such as Gotham Knights and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, also made their way into the charts. The PS5 console took the top spot, outselling the Nintendo Switch for the first time since September 2021, despite a 33% decline in console sales across European markets. The Xbox Series consoles were the only ones to experience a year-on-year increase in sales, with a 26% rise.
