UK Sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Soar 92% Above Vanguard

The UK gaming market saw a significant boost in October, with 2.83 million games sold, representing an 11.2% increase from the previous year. Digital downloads accounted for 1.75 million of these sales, marking a 36% year-over-year rise. In contrast, physical game sales declined by 14% to 1.1 million. The primary driver of this growth was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which achieved a 92% higher opening week sales compared to its predecessor, Call of Duty: Vanguard. The game's sales were dominated by PlayStation formats, with 57% of sales on PS5 and PS4, followed by Xbox platforms at 33%, and PC at 11%. Other notable performers included FIFA 23, which saw a 6% increase in sales over the previous year's edition, and Gotham Knights, which debuted at number three in the charts. New releases such as Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and PGA Tour 2K23 also made their mark, with the former launching at number five and the latter at number seven. In terms of console sales, the PS5 narrowly maintained its lead over the Xbox Series X and S, with Nintendo Switch sales rising by 5% and overtaking Xbox One in all-time UK sales. The accessories market saw a decline of 9% month-over-month, with official Xbox and PlayStation controllers dominating sales.
