UK Console Sales Soar 41% in September, Driven by Strong Demand for Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch

The UK gaming market experienced a substantial surge in console sales during September, with a notable increase of 41% compared to the previous month. However, the overall market remains down year-over-year. According to data from GfK and GSD, 3.17 million games were sold in the UK last month, representing an 83% increase from August but a 6% decline compared to September 2021. The sales were driven primarily by FIFA 23, which accounted for over a third of all games sold in the UK during the month, despite only being available for a few days. New releases such as NBA 2K23, Splatoon 3, and The Last of Us: Part 1 also performed well, with NBA 2K23 seeing sales up 25% compared to its predecessor. Console sales were strong across the board, with the PS5 remaining the best-selling console and Xbox Series X and S seeing a significant 104% jump in sales. The Nintendo Switch also enjoyed a 44% sales uplift, driven in part by the launch of Splatoon 3. The accessories market saw a rise of over 34% compared to August, with the PS5 DualSense controller and Xbox Wireless Shock Blue controller being the top-selling items. Despite the monthly increase, year-to-date console sales in the UK remain down 35.5%.
