The Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) has unveiled the inaugural roster for its Supernova incubation initiative, selecting a total of fifteen game development studios from a pool of more than 260 applications. This marks a significant milestone for the Indian gaming ecosystem, as the association seeks to nurture nascent talent and accelerate the growth of promising creators.

The Supernova program, which officially launched in July 2026, is designed as a three‑month intensive accelerator. Chosen studios will receive hands‑on mentorship from seasoned industry veterans, access to a suite of technology and marketing credits, and curated introductions to potential investors and publishing partners. The culmination of the program will be a high‑visibility Demo Day, scheduled to take place during this year’s India Game Developers Conference (IGDC), where each studio will have the chance to showcase its prototype or early‑stage product to a broad audience of stakeholders.

A number of heavyweight partners have pledged support for the cohort. Tencent, one of the world’s largest gaming conglomerates, will provide strategic guidance and possibly co‑publishing opportunities. IVIPRO, SpielFabrique, Mintegral and Lakshya Digital are also on board, each contributing specialized resources ranging from analytics tools to distribution channels. Notably, Indus Appstore has committed to offering participating studios "priority onboarding and ad credits to kick‑start user acquisition," a critical advantage for studios that have yet to generate revenue.

"The selection of this inaugural cohort marks the beginning of a focused journey for these 15 studios," said Rajan Navani, a board member and chairperson of GDAI’s Incubation Sub‑committee. "Over the next three months, Supernova will bring together mentors, technology partners, publishers and investors to help each studio address its specific development and business priorities." Navani emphasized that the program is not a one‑size‑fits‑all solution; rather, each studio will receive a tailored roadmap that aligns with its unique creative vision and commercial goals. The fifteen studios that earned a place in the program are: - Absurd Games - Team Quasar - AbhiTech Games - Konkan Coast Studios - Dunali Games - Chitrakala Interactive - Ashdev Studios - Compiling Shaders - Brahman Studios - Yaari Games - Funwave Studio - Arcadon Games - Shivaansh Artvision - AnonVision Creative Labs - Parkince These studios represent a diverse cross‑section of the Indian gaming landscape, ranging from small indie teams focused on mobile puzzle experiences to more ambitious groups developing narrative‑driven action titles.

By bringing together such varied talent, Supernova aims to foster cross‑pollination of ideas and best practices, ultimately raising the overall quality and competitiveness of Indian games on the global stage. GDAI itself is a broad‑based trade body that currently represents over 200 member studios across the country. Its mission extends beyond incubation; the association is also active in talent development, international outreach, and policy advocacy. The Supernova initiative fits within this larger framework, serving as a practical conduit for turning policy and educational efforts into tangible business outcomes for developers.

One of the program’s key objectives is to address the chronic challenge of user acquisition for pre‑revenue studios. By leveraging Indus Appstore’s ad‑credit package and Mintegral’s performance‑marketing platform, studios will be able to launch targeted campaigns that generate early user data and feedback. This data, in turn, can inform iterative design decisions and help studios refine their monetisation strategies before they go to market.

In addition to marketing support, the mentorship component will cover a wide array of topics. Technical mentors will assist with engine optimisation, cross‑platform deployment, and quality‑assurance pipelines. Business mentors will guide studios through financial planning, pitch deck creation, and negotiation tactics for publishing deals. Legal advisors will also be available to help navigate intellectual‑property considerations and contract law, which are often overlooked by first‑time developers.

The Demo Day at IGDC will serve as the program’s public showcase. Each studio will be allocated a dedicated slot to present a playable demo or a polished trailer, followed by a Q&A session with a panel of investors, publishers and media representatives.

This exposure is expected to generate not only potential funding but also valuable press coverage, which can amplify a studio’s brand awareness. Looking ahead, GDAI hopes that the success of the Supernova cohort will lay the groundwork for future iterations of the program, potentially expanding the number of participating studios and extending the incubation period. The association also aims to reach more than 25,000 students nationwide through its broader educational initiatives, creating a pipeline of skilled talent that can feed into programs like Supernova.

In summary, the launch of Supernova represents a concerted effort by the Game Developer Association of India, its corporate partners, and the wider gaming community to nurture early‑stage studios, provide them with the resources they need to thrive, and ultimately position India as a formidable player in the global gaming market.
