The Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) has unveiled the first batch of participants for its newly launched Supernova incubation initiative, naming fifteen studios out of a pool of more than 260 applicants. This marks a significant step for the Indian gaming ecosystem, as the association seeks to nurture early‑stage developers and accelerate the creation of home‑grown titles that can compete on a global stage. Supernova, which kicked off in July 2026, is structured as a three‑month intensive program. During this period, each chosen studio receives a blend of mentorship, technical and marketing credits, as well as curated introductions to potential investors and publishing partners.
The ultimate goal is to equip these fledgling teams with the resources and strategic guidance they need to move from concept to a market‑ready product. At the conclusion of the incubation, the cohort will showcase its progress at a Demo Day that is scheduled to take place during the upcoming India Game Developers Conference (IGDC), providing a high‑visibility platform for networking and deal‑making. The initiative is supported by a roster of industry heavyweights, including Tencent, IVIPRO, SpielFabrique, Indus Appstore, Mintegral, and Lakshya Digital. Each partner contributes a specific set of assets to the program.
For instance, Indus Appstore has pledged "priority onboarding and ad credits" for the participating studios, a benefit designed to jump‑start user acquisition campaigns and give developers an early edge in a crowded marketplace. Tencent brings its vast experience in publishing and live‑ops, while Mintegral offers performance‑marketing expertise that can help studios fine‑tune their monetisation strategies. "The selection of this inaugural cohort marks the beginning of a focused journey for these 15 studios," said Rajan Navani, a board member and chair of GDAI's Incubation Subcommittee.
"Over the next three months, Supernova will bring together mentors, technology partners, publishers and investors to help each studio address its specific development and business priorities." Navani emphasised that the program is not a one‑size‑fits‑all solution; instead, each studio will receive a tailored roadmap that aligns with its unique creative vision and commercial objectives. The fifteen studios that earned a spot in the program are: - Absurd Games - Team Quasar - AbhiTech Games - Konkan Coast Studios - Dunali Games - Chitrakala Interactive - Ashdev Studios - Compiling Shaders - Brahman Studios - Yaari Games - Funwave Studio - Arcadon Games - Shivaansh Artvision - AnonVision Creative Labs - Parkince These studios represent a diverse cross‑section of the Indian gaming landscape, ranging from indie developers focused on narrative‑driven experiences to teams experimenting with emerging technologies such as augmented reality and blockchain‑based gameplay. By bringing together such varied talent, Supernova aims to foster cross‑pollination of ideas and encourage collaborations that might not occur in a more siloed environment. GDAI, which counts over 200 member studios among its ranks, views Supernova as a natural extension of its broader mission to develop talent, expand global outreach, and influence policy in favour of the gaming sector.
The association has long advocated for supportive regulatory frameworks, better access to funding, and educational initiatives that prepare the next generation of game creators. In line with these goals, GDAI hopes that the Supernova program will eventually touch more than 25,000 students across the country, providing them with hands‑on experience, mentorship, and a clear pathway into the industry. Beyond the immediate benefits for the selected studios, the program is expected to generate ripple effects throughout the Indian gaming ecosystem. By demonstrating a successful model for incubation, GDAI hopes to attract additional corporate sponsors, government backing, and academic partnerships that can scale the effort in future cohorts.
Moreover, the visibility provided by the IGDC Demo Day will allow investors to identify promising opportunities early, potentially leading to seed funding rounds, publishing deals, or strategic alliances that can accelerate growth. In summary, the Supernova incubation program represents a concerted effort by the Game Developer Association of India to bridge the gap between creative ideas and commercial viability for early‑stage game studios. With the backing of major industry players, a structured mentorship framework, and a clear showcase opportunity at IGDC, the fifteen selected studios are poised to make significant strides in the coming months.
Their progress will be closely watched by stakeholders across the sector, as the success of this inaugural cohort could set the tone for future investments in India's vibrant and rapidly expanding game development community.
