The Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) has unveiled the inaugural roster for its Supernova incubation initiative, naming fifteen development studios out of a pool of more than 260 applicants. This marks a significant milestone for the Indian gaming ecosystem, as the association seeks to nurture early‑stage talent and accelerate the growth of home‑grown studios. Supernova, which launched in July 2026, is a three‑month intensive program designed to provide participating studios with a blend of mentorship, technical credits, and strategic introductions to potential investors and publishing partners. At the conclusion of the term, each studio will have the chance to showcase its progress at a dedicated Demo Day held during the upcoming India Game Developers Conference (IGDC).
This public platform is intended to attract further funding, distribution deals, and media attention. The incubation effort is supported by a coalition of industry heavyweights, including Tencent, IVIPRO, SpielFabrique, Indus Appstore, Mintegral, and Lakshya Digital. In particular, Indus Appstore has pledged to give the selected studios "priority onboarding and ad credits to kick‑start user acquisition," allowing developers to test their titles with real audiences and gather valuable performance data early in the product lifecycle.
"The selection of this inaugural cohort marks the beginning of a focused journey for these 15 studios," said Rajan Navani, a board member and chairperson of GDAI's Incubation Subcommittee. "Over the next three months, Supernova will bring together mentors, technology partners, publishers and investors to help each studio address its specific development and business priorities." Navani emphasized that the program is not a one‑size‑fits‑all solution; rather, each studio will receive a customized roadmap that aligns with its unique creative vision and commercial goals.
The fifteen chosen studios are: - Absurd Games - Team Quasar - AbhiTech Games - Konkan Coast Studios - Dunali Games - Chitrakala Interactive - Ashdev Studios - Compiling Shaders - Brahman Studios - Yaari Games - Funwave Studio - Arcadon Games - Shivaansh Artvision - AnonVision Creative Labs - Parkince These studios represent a diverse cross‑section of the Indian gaming landscape, ranging from mobile‑first indie creators to teams focused on PC and console experiences. Many of them have demonstrated promising prototypes, strong community engagement, or innovative use of emerging technologies such as augmented reality, procedural generation, or blockchain‑based asset ownership. By bringing them together under the Supernova umbrella, GDAI aims to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cross‑pollination of ideas. Beyond the direct support provided during the incubation period, GDAI's broader mission includes talent development, international outreach, and policy advocacy for the gaming sector.
The association currently represents more than 200 member studios, and its Supernova program is positioned as a flagship effort within a larger strategy to professionalize the industry and raise its global profile. GDAI also plans to leverage the program's outcomes to inform future policy recommendations, such as incentives for game exports and improvements to digital infrastructure. One of the key components of Supernova is the provision of industry credits. Through partnerships with Tencent and Mintegral, studios will receive cloud computing credits, analytics tools, and advertising budgets that would otherwise be prohibitively expensive for early‑stage teams.
This financial cushion enables developers to focus on polishing gameplay, refining art assets, and conducting user testing without the constant pressure of cash flow constraints. Mentorship is another cornerstone of the initiative. Experienced veterans from established studios, as well as executives from publishing houses, will hold weekly workshops, one‑on‑one coaching sessions, and panel discussions.
Topics will span game design fundamentals, monetization strategies, live‑ops management, and navigating the complex legal landscape of intellectual property and international distribution. The Demo Day at IGDC will serve as the program's culminating event.
Each studio will be allocated a presentation slot to demo a playable build, share key performance metrics, and articulate its roadmap for the next 12‑18 months. Investors, publishers, and media representatives attending IGDC will have the opportunity to engage directly with the founders, potentially leading to seed funding rounds, publishing agreements, or strategic partnerships. GDAI hopes that the visibility and resources afforded by Supernova will translate into tangible growth for the participating studios. In the longer term, the association envisions scaling the program to accommodate a larger number of applicants, incorporating additional partners such as hardware manufacturers and educational institutions, and expanding its reach to cover more regions across India.
The ultimate goal is to nurture a sustainable pipeline of high‑quality games that can compete on the global stage while also reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the country. In parallel with Supernova, GDAI continues its outreach to aspiring developers through educational initiatives aimed at more than 25,000 students nationwide. By combining formal training, mentorship, and real‑world incubation experiences, the association seeks to build a robust talent ecosystem that can support the rapid expansion of the Indian gaming market in the years ahead.
