Gamescom 2026 proved to be a landmark event for the global video‑game sector, drawing an impressive 368,000 attendees from 131 different countries—a rise of roughly six percent compared with the previous edition. This surge in footfall underscores the fair’s growing appeal as a meeting point for gamers, developers, publishers, and industry professionals worldwide. The exhibition hall was bustling with activity, hosting a total of 1,743 companies representing 66 nations.
This figure reflects an eleven‑percent increase over the 2025 show, highlighting the expanding interest of international firms in the German market. In fact, foreign exhibitors made up 72 % of all participants, and the event featured 48 distinct country pavilions that together showcased products and services from 41 nations, reinforcing Gamescom’s status as a truly global showcase. Among the most notable growth stories were Brazil, Canada and the United States, each of which posted the strongest year‑on‑year increases in visitor numbers.
More than 36,000 trade visitors attended the fair, and roughly half of them travelled from outside Germany, illustrating the event’s magnetic pull for industry insiders seeking networking, partnership, and business opportunities. Gamescom Dev, the professional conference that precedes the main exhibition, also experienced robust growth. Attendance at the developer‑focused segment rose fifteen percent, reaching 6,200 participants.
The conference program was extensive, featuring 397 speakers who delivered insights across 238 sessions spread over 18 stages. The breadth of topics covered ranged from emerging technologies such as AI‑driven game design to practical workshops on monetisation strategies and cross‑platform development. Overall, more than 2,500 companies from 95 countries were represented across Gamescom Dev and its accompanying indie expo.
In addition, 57 partners and exhibitors contributed to the vibrant atmosphere of the developer conference, providing a platform for smaller studios and independent creators to showcase their work alongside industry giants. GamesIndustry.biz conducted an interview with Frederik Hammes, Managing Director of Gamescom Dev, to discuss the outcomes of the event’s annual developer survey.
The data revealed that small‑to‑medium‑sized studios constitute the most significant growth opportunity within the gaming market, a trend that aligns with the rising prominence of indie titles and niche experiences. Digital engagement around Gamescom was equally remarkable.
By Saturday evening, the event’s online content had amassed more than 624 million global views. The Opening Night Live broadcast alone attracted 78 million viewers, while the Gamescom Awesome Indies Show recorded over 302,000 live viewers—a staggering 670 % increase compared with the previous year, demonstrating the soaring interest in independent game showcases. The digital community adventure, Gamescom Epix, generated 6.2 million page views, up about nine percent from the prior edition, indicating sustained audience appetite for interactive online experiences that complement the physical fair.
Felix Falk, Managing Director of the German Games Industry Association, summed up the significance of the 2026 edition: "Gamescom has delivered an impressive statement about its role as the central platform for the international games industry. Many of last year's record figures were surpassed, especially in terms of international participation and the number of exhibitors. The drive for the future can be felt here – it's what again propels the industry forward this year despite the challenges – and what makes the Gamescom atmosphere so unique." Gerald Böse, President and CEO of Koelnmesse, added his perspective: "Gamescom brings people from all over the world together, combining the economic and social significance of games on a scale like no other.
This was an extremely successful Gamescom, and we are delighted by the event's strong international character. It shows Gamescom's ever‑growing importance as the leading platform for everyone who plays, develops and creates games." Looking ahead, the organizers have already set the dates for the next edition. Gamescom 2027 is scheduled to run from August 25 to 29, with the Gamescom Dev conference slated for August 23 and 24. The continued upward trajectory in visitor numbers, exhibitor participation, and digital reach suggests that the fair will maintain its position as the premier gathering for the global gaming community, offering unparalleled opportunities for networking, discovery, and industry advancement.
