Aggro Crab, the indie studio behind acclaimed titles such as Peak and Another Crab's Treasure, has announced the creation of a dedicated publishing label. The new venture is designed to champion "intense, stylised games with an attitude," offering a supportive framework for developers who share that bold creative vision.
The label will be managed directly by the Aggro Crab team, which plans to work closely with small, passionate studios that need financial backing of up to $500,000 to bring their concepts to life. Projects are expected to be scoped for completion within a two‑year window, allowing for focused development cycles and timely releases. One of the key differentiators of Aggro Crab’s publishing model is its flexibility.
Rather than imposing rigid contracts, the label will operate with a set of consistent base terms while allowing milestones to be adjusted as development progresses. Importantly, the agreement does not demand full recoupment of the advance, and the publisher will not hold back the final payment until a specific release date is met. This approach reduces pressure on developers and gives them the freedom to polish their games without the looming threat of financial penalties.
Beyond funding, Aggro Crab will lend its marketing expertise to partner projects. The label’s support package includes the production of high‑quality trailers, creation of striking key art, strategic brand consulting, and promotion across Aggro Crab’s established social media channels. By leveraging the studio’s existing community and reputation, indie teams can gain visibility that would otherwise be difficult to achieve on their own.
Aggro Crab intends to keep its publishing slate intentionally lean, signing only one or two games each year. This limited intake ensures that the label can devote ample attention and resources to each title while still maintaining its own internal development pipeline. To date, the label has already entered into agreements with two promising projects.
The first is Rebounder, a precision platformer crafted by the studio ThirtyThree, which promises tight controls and challenging level design. The second is Subway Midnight, a psychedelic horror experience from Bubby Darkstar that blends unsettling atmospheres with inventive gameplay mechanics. Both titles exemplify the type of daring, stylistically distinct experiences Aggro Crab seeks to amplify.
"Our reputation and reach have been growing steadily over the years, and we want to open doors that indie developers often find closed," a spokesperson for Aggro Crab explained. "We’re not looking to dictate creative direction or step on anyone’s toes. If we sign a project, it’s because we believe in the creator’s vision and trust them to execute it fully." The studio also reflected on its own publishing journey, noting that it has worked with a spectrum of partners—from supportive allies to less‑ideal collaborators.
"Having been on both sides of the table, we understand what works and what doesn’t. We aim to set an example of how publishing can be a genuinely positive force for indie creators," the statement added. Corey Warning, head of publishing at Aggro Crab, told Game Developer that the studio’s success with Peak has placed it in a "unique position" to expand its influence without inflating its internal team.
"We weren’t really interested in significantly growing the size of our staff; instead, we wanted to grow our catalogue," Warning said. "We enjoy being hands‑on with the projects we support, offering insights drawn from our own indie development experience and self‑publishing background." Aggro Crab’s community, built over years of transparent communication and consistent delivery, is another asset the label plans to leverage.
"We’ve cultivated a massive, engaged audience that trusts our approach to making and promoting games," Warning continued. "That trust translates into a ready‑made platform for the indie titles we publish, giving them a head start in reaching players who appreciate bold, stylised experiences." In summary, Aggro Crab’s new publishing label is positioned as a boutique partner for indie developers seeking both financial support and seasoned guidance. By limiting its annual intake, offering flexible funding structures, and providing robust marketing assistance, the label aims to nurture games that are intense, visually striking, and unapologetically original.
The early signings—Rebounder and Subway Midnight—set the tone for a catalog that promises to push the boundaries of style and attitude in the indie gaming landscape.
