Gamescom 2026 proved to be a landmark event for the global gaming community, drawing a total of 368,000 attendees hailing from 131 different countries. This represents a solid 6% increase compared with the previous edition, underscoring the show’s growing appeal and its status as a premier gathering for both consumers and industry professionals. The exhibition floor was bustling with activity as 1,743 companies representing 66 nations set up booths, a figure that reflects an 11% jump from the 2025 show. International participants now make up a commanding 72% of all exhibitors, highlighting the event’s truly global character.
In addition to the main exhibition halls, 48 dedicated country pavilions were on display, showcasing the creative output of 41 individual nations and providing visitors with a curated look at regional gaming trends. Among the markets that demonstrated the most pronounced growth were Brazil, Canada, and the United States.
These three regions collectively contributed a sizable portion of the attendance surge, signalling robust interest in European gaming events from North America and South America alike. Trade visitors also played a pivotal role: more than 36,000 professionals attended the trade portion of the show, and roughly half of them travelled from outside Germany, reinforcing Gamescom’s reputation as an essential hub for networking, business deals, and industry insight.
The companion conference, Gamescom Dev, experienced a 15% rise in attendance, welcoming 6,200 visitors focused on development, production, and the business side of gaming. Held in the days leading up to the main exhibition, Gamescom Dev featured an impressive lineup of 397 speakers who delivered talks across 238 sessions spread over 18 distinct stages. This programming depth allowed participants to dive deep into topics ranging from emerging technologies such as AI-driven game design to the evolving economics of live‑service titles. Overall, more than 2,500 companies from 95 countries took part across both Gamescom and Gamescom Dev, complemented by 57 partners and additional exhibitors that contributed to the indie showcase.
The indie segment, known as the Awesome Indies Show, attracted over 302,000 online viewers, an astonishing increase of more than 670% compared with the previous year, indicating a soaring appetite for independent titles and the creators behind them. In a post‑event interview, GamesIndustry.biz sat down with Frederik Hammes, Managing Director of Gamescom Dev, to discuss the outcomes of the annual Gamescom Dev survey.
The data revealed that smaller studios represent the single biggest growth opportunity within the broader games market, a trend that could reshape investment strategies and publishing models in the years ahead. Digital engagement also hit new heights.
By Saturday evening, Gamescom’s online content had amassed over 624 million global views, with the Opening Night Live broadcast alone accounting for 78 million of those impressions. The digital community adventure "Gamescom Epix" generated 6.2 million page views, a modest but notable 9% increase over the prior year, reflecting continued interest in supplemental online experiences.
Felix Falk, Managing Director of the German Games Industry Association, praised the event, stating, "In 2026, Gamescom delivered an impressive statement about its role as the central platform for the international games industry. Many of last year's record figures were surpassed, especially in terms of international participation and the number of exhibitors. The drive for the future can be felt here – it's what again propels the industry forward this year despite the challenges – and what makes the Gamescom atmosphere so unique." Gerald Böse, President and CEO of Koelnmesse, echoed this sentiment, adding, "Gamescom brings people from all over the world together, combining the economic and social significance of games on a scale like no other.
This was an extremely successful Gamescom, and we are delighted by the event's strong international character. It shows Gamescom's ever‑growing importance as the leading platform for everyone who plays, develops and creates games." Looking ahead, the organizers have already set the dates for the next edition: Gamescom 2027 will run from August 25 to 29, with the Gamescom Dev conference scheduled for August 23 to 24.
The continued upward trajectory in attendance, exhibitor numbers, and digital reach suggests that the event will keep expanding its influence, serving as a barometer for industry health and a catalyst for innovation across the global gaming ecosystem.
