This holiday season, Save the Children is set to roll out its very first game‑centric and live‑streaming fundraising initiative, branded Save Point. The new venture marks a significant step for the organization as it seeks to tap into the vibrant world of video games and online streaming, offering supporters a fresh, accessible way to contribute. Fiona Baxter, the senior fundraising manager at Save the Children, told GamesIndustry.biz that the concept for Save Point emerged from a broader ambition to deepen the charity’s relationship with the gaming community.
"Save Point is allowing us to engage more with the gaming community, both from a partnership and individual supporter perspective. Not everyone can run a marathon, so an event like this is a lot more accessible and allows us to showcase what a different type of supporter can do," she explained.
The charity has teamed up with popular online creator and streamer TheKapFantastic, who earlier this year helped raise over £5,000 for Save the Children through his own channels. This partnership underscores the organization’s strategy of collaborating with influential gamers who can mobilise their audiences for a common cause. Baxter emphasised that the partnership with TheKapFantastic is just the beginning. "It would be incredible to reach more people in this community with information about the work we do and why it's important," she said.
"I will consider it a huge success if we walk away from this event with a new crew of supporters who might want to game for us again because of their experience with us." She added that the event will also serve as a learning platform: "There are also a lot of learning opportunities in this event. This is our first time doing this type of fundraiser, so the feedback we get will be invaluable and help us shape bigger and better gaming events year‑on‑year." According to Baxter, gamers and streamers are often the "unsung heroes of fundraising" and are helping to set a "new, innovative standard" for charitable support. She highlighted the shared values of the gaming community—storytelling, imagination, and the desire to escape into new worlds—as powerful catalysts for real‑world impact.
"There is an understanding between game‑lovers that we are a group of people who love stories, imagination and escaping to new worlds through the power of play. By turning our love of gaming into a force for real‑world, lasting change, we're demonstrating just how powerful and impactful the gaming community can be," she noted. Save Point is a key component of Save the Children’s broader campaign, "The One Delivery That Matters," slated to launch in November 2026. The campaign aims to draw attention to the fact that, for millions of children worldwide, the most critical gifts this Christmas will not be toys or sweets, but essential supplies such as food, medicine, warm clothing, and safe shelter.
Baxter illustrated the contrast between everyday e‑commerce convenience and the dire needs of vulnerable children: "Absolutely anything you could think of can be delivered right to your door at the tap of a screen. But for millions of children this Christmas, it’s not toys or treats they’re waiting for – it's the deliveries that will save lives and protect childhoods." The Save Point event is scheduled for December 5‑6, 2026.
During the two‑day window, participants will be able to register their interest, receive guidance on setting up a fundraising livestream, and join a global community of gamers united by a common purpose. The format encourages both individual streamers and larger gaming groups to host live sessions, share progress bars, and interact with viewers who can donate directly through integrated platforms.
Beyond the immediate fundraising goal, Save Point is designed to create lasting relationships between the charity and the gaming ecosystem. By showcasing the tangible outcomes of donations—such as the delivery of life‑saving supplies to children in crisis zones—Save the Children hopes to inspire ongoing advocacy and future collaborations. The event also provides a data‑rich environment for the charity to analyse engagement metrics, donor behaviour, and content performance, informing the design of future gaming‑focused campaigns.
In addition to the livestreams, Save Point will feature special in‑game challenges, exclusive digital badges for donors, and collaborative play sessions with well‑known influencers. These elements aim to deepen participant immersion and reward generosity, turning the act of giving into an interactive experience that mirrors the excitement of gaming itself.
The charity is optimistic that the initiative will not only generate significant funds but also raise awareness among a demographic that has historically been under‑utilised in charitable outreach. By aligning the values of play, community, and empathy, Save Point aspires to set a precedent for how NGOs can harness the power of digital entertainment for social good. If you are interested in joining the movement, you can sign up through the Save Point registration portal, where you will receive step‑by‑step instructions on setting up your streaming equipment, tips for engaging your audience, and resources to maximise your fundraising impact. Whether you are a seasoned streamer or a casual gamer eager to make a difference, Save Point offers a unique avenue to turn your passion for gaming into meaningful support for children in need this holiday season.
