Gamescom 2026 proved to be a landmark edition for the global gaming showcase, drawing a total of 368,000 attendees representing 131 different countries. This figure translates to a 6% increase compared to the previous year, underscoring the event’s growing appeal among both casual fans and industry professionals.

The exhibition floor was bustling with activity, as 1,743 companies hailing from 66 nations set up booths, demonstrating an 11% jump in exhibitor count over the 2025 edition. International participants made up a dominant 72% of the total exhibitor base, and the event featured 48 dedicated country pavilions that highlighted the creative output of 41 distinct markets. This strong overseas presence reinforced Gamescom’s reputation as the premier meeting point for the worldwide games ecosystem.

Among the nations showing the most pronounced visitor growth were Brazil, Canada and the United States. These three markets each recorded double‑digit percentage increases, reflecting both the expanding gaming cultures in those regions and the effectiveness of Gamescom’s outreach programs. Over 36,000 trade visitors made the journey to Cologne, and roughly half of them arrived from outside Germany, illustrating the event’s magnetic pull for business‑focused participants. The ancillary conference, Gamescom Dev, also experienced a surge in interest, with attendance rising 15% to reach 6,200 developers, designers, and other creators.

Held in the days preceding the main exhibition, Gamescom Dev featured a packed schedule that included 397 speakers, 238 individual sessions, and 18 distinct stages covering topics ranging from emerging technologies and indie financing to diversity in game design. More than 2,500 companies from 95 countries were represented across the conference and its associated indie expo, complemented by 57 partners and additional exhibitors who contributed to the vibrant networking atmosphere.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Gamescom Dev managing director Frederik Hammes reflected on the findings of this year’s Gamescom Dev survey. The data highlighted smaller studios as the most significant growth opportunity within the broader games market, suggesting that the industry’s future may be driven by agile, innovative teams capable of rapid iteration and niche audience engagement. Digital engagement around Gamescom continued to expand dramatically.

By Saturday evening, the event’s online content had amassed more than 624 million global views. The Opening Night Live broadcast alone attracted 78 million viewers, while the Gamescom Awesome Indies Show recorded an impressive 302,000 live viewers—a staggering 670% increase over the previous year’s figures.

The digital community adventure platform Gamescom Epix also saw heightened traffic, generating 6.2 million page views, roughly 9% higher than in 2025. "In 2026, Gamescom delivered a powerful statement about its role as the central hub for the international games industry," said Felix Falk, managing director of the German Games Industry Association. "Many of last year's record numbers were surpassed, especially in terms of international participation and exhibitor count.

The momentum for the future is palpable here—it propels the industry forward despite ongoing challenges and gives the Gamescom atmosphere its unique energy." Gerald Böse, President and CEO of Koelnmesse, added his perspective: "Gamescom brings together people from every corner of the globe, merging the economic and social impact of games on a scale unlike any other event. This edition was extraordinarily successful, and we are thrilled by its strong international character. It demonstrates Gamescom’s ever‑increasing importance as the leading platform for everyone who plays, develops, and creates games." Looking ahead, the organizers have already announced the dates for the next edition.

Gamescom 2027 is scheduled to run from August 25 to 29, with the Gamescom Dev conference slated for August 23 to 24. The continued growth in visitor numbers, exhibitor diversity, and digital reach suggests that the event will keep strengthening its position as the definitive gathering for the global gaming community, offering unparalleled opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and celebration of interactive entertainment. Overall, the 2026 edition not only broke attendance records but also highlighted the expanding global footprint of the gaming industry.

The surge in participation from emerging markets, the heightened interest in indie development, and the massive digital audience all point to a vibrant, interconnected future where Gamescom remains at the heart of industry conversation and innovation.
