Gamescom 2026 proved to be a landmark edition for the world’s largest gaming exhibition, drawing a total of 368,000 attendees from 131 different countries. This represents a solid 6 percent increase compared with the previous year, underscoring the event’s growing appeal across continents and demographics.

The exhibition floor was even more bustling than before, with 1,743 companies representing 66 nations setting up stands, booths, and interactive experiences. That figure translates to an 11 percent jump in exhibitor participation relative to the 2025 edition, signalling heightened confidence among manufacturers, publishers, and service providers in the value of a physical presence at Gamescom. International exhibitors now make up roughly 72 percent of the total participant base, and the event featured 48 dedicated country pavilions that together showcased the creative output of 41 distinct markets.

Among the geographic segments that posted the most dramatic growth were Brazil, Canada, and the United States. These three regions collectively contributed a sizable portion of the surge in both trade and consumer visitors.

In total, more than 36,000 trade professionals attended the fair, with approximately half of them arriving from outside Germany. This influx of international business visitors reinforced Gamescom’s reputation as a truly global hub for networking, deal‑making, and knowledge exchange. The developer‑focused segment of the show, Gamescom Dev, also experienced notable expansion. Attendance at the dedicated developer conference rose by 15 percent, reaching 6,200 participants.

The program, which runs in the days leading up to the main exhibition, featured an impressive roster of 397 speakers delivering insights across 238 individual sessions spread over 18 distinct stages. Over 2,500 companies from 95 countries were represented at Gamescom Dev and its accompanying indie expo, while 57 partner organisations contributed additional content and support.

GamesIndustry.biz conducted an interview with Frederik Hammes, the managing director of Gamescom Dev, to discuss the outcomes of this year’s developer survey. The findings highlighted smaller, independent studios as the most promising growth engine within the broader games market, suggesting that the industry’s future may be increasingly shaped by agile teams and niche titles. Digital engagement around Gamescom continued to break records.

By Saturday evening, the event’s online content had amassed more than 624 million global views. The Opening Night Live broadcast alone attracted 78 million views, while the Gamescom Awesome Indies Show drew over 302,000 viewers—a staggering 670 percent increase over the previous year’s figures. The community‑driven digital adventure Gamescom Epix also performed strongly, generating 6.2 million page views, up roughly 9 percent from the prior edition. "In 2026, Gamescom delivered an impressive statement about its role as the central platform for the international games industry," said Felix Falk, managing director of the German Games Industry Association.

He added that many of the record‑breaking numbers from the prior year were surpassed, especially regarding international participation and exhibitor count. Falk emphasized that the palpable drive toward the future, evident throughout the fair, continues to push the industry forward despite any challenges, creating a uniquely vibrant atmosphere. Gerald Böse, president and chief executive officer of Koelnmesse, echoed this sentiment, noting that Gamescom brings together people from every corner of the globe, merging the economic and social significance of gaming on an unprecedented scale.

He described the 2026 edition as “extremely successful” and highlighted its strong international character as evidence of Gamescom’s ever‑growing importance as the premier platform for players, developers, and creators alike. Looking ahead, Gamescom has already announced the dates for its next incarnation. The 2027 edition is scheduled for August 25‑29, with the Gamescom Dev conference slated for August 23‑24.

Organisers anticipate that the upward trajectory in visitor numbers, exhibitor diversity, and digital reach will continue, reinforcing the fair’s status as the definitive gathering point for the global gaming community. In summary, Gamescom 2026 not only delivered higher attendance and exhibitor figures but also deepened its international footprint, expanded its developer program, and amplified its digital presence. These achievements collectively illustrate the event’s pivotal role in shaping the present and future of the worldwide games industry.
