Gamescom 2026 proved to be a landmark event for the global video‑game sector, drawing an impressive 368,000 attendees hailing from 131 different countries. This represents a solid 6 percent increase in footfall compared with the previous year, underscoring the show’s growing pull as the premier gathering for gamers, developers, and industry professionals alike. The exhibition floor was even more bustling than before, with 1,743 companies representing 66 nations setting up booths, a jump of 11 percent over the 2025 roster.

International participants now made up roughly 72 percent of all exhibitors, highlighting the event’s truly global character. In addition, 48 national pavilions were on display, collectively representing 41 countries and offering visitors a rich tapestry of regional gaming cultures and innovations. Among the markets that posted the strongest year‑on‑year growth were Brazil, Canada and the United States, each seeing a notable surge in both exhibitor presence and visitor interest.

Over 36,000 trade‑only visitors attended the show, and about half of these professionals travelled from outside Germany, reinforcing Gamescom’s status as a crossroads for international business deals, networking, and partnership formation. The ancillary conference, Gamescom Dev, also enjoyed a healthy uptick in participation, with attendance climbing 15 percent to 6,200 industry insiders. Held in the days leading up to the main exhibition, Gamescom Dev featured a packed programme of 397 speakers delivering insights across 238 sessions, all spread over 18 distinct stages. The breadth of topics covered ranged from emerging technologies such as AI‑driven game design to practical workshops on funding, marketing, and post‑launch support for indie studios.

In total, more than 2,500 companies from 95 countries took part in Gamescom Dev and its associated indie expo, complemented by 57 official partners and additional exhibitors. This expansive lineup reflected the event’s commitment to nurturing both established studios and the next generation of creators. GamesIndustry.biz conducted an interview with Gamescom Dev Managing Director Frederik Hammes, focusing on the findings of this year’s Gamescom Dev survey. The data pointed to smaller development houses as the most promising source of future growth in the gaming market, suggesting that publishers and investors are increasingly looking to support boutique teams with innovative concepts.

Digital engagement surrounding the event was equally impressive. By Saturday evening, the online content generated by Gamescom had amassed more than 624 million global views. The Opening Night Live broadcast alone attracted 78 million viewers, while the Gamescom Awesome Indies Show saw its audience swell to over 302,000 – a staggering increase of more than 670 percent compared with the previous edition.

The digital community platform Gamescom Epix recorded 6.2 million page views, up roughly 9 percent year‑over‑year, indicating that the online ecosystem surrounding the show continues to expand in step with the physical event. "In 2026, Gamescom delivered a powerful statement about its role as the central hub for the international games industry," said Felix Falk, Managing Director of the German Games Industry Association.

"Many of last year's record figures were surpassed, especially in terms of international participation and the number of exhibitors. The drive for the future can be felt here – it's what again propels the industry forward this year despite the challenges – and what makes the Gamescom atmosphere so unique." Gerald Böse, President and Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse, added his perspective: "Gamescom brings people from all over the world together, combining the economic and social significance of games on a scale like no other. This was an extremely successful Gamescom, and we are delighted by the event's strong international character. It shows Gamescom's ever‑growing importance as the leading platform for everyone who plays, develops and creates games." Looking ahead, the organizers have already set the dates for the next edition.

Gamescom 2027 is scheduled to run from August 25 to 29, with the Gamescom Dev conference slated for August 23 to 24. The continued upward trajectory in attendance, exhibitor diversity, and digital reach suggests that the show will maintain its position at the forefront of the industry, offering an unparalleled venue for showcasing new titles, forging business relationships, and celebrating the cultural impact of video games worldwide.
