Xbox Aims to Harness India's Gaming Potential
The Indian gaming landscape is witnessing rapid growth, with the mobile segment leading the charge. Although console sales have been modest, Microsoft is keen to expand its presence in the country through its Global Expansion Incubator (GXI) team. Arjun Varma, a manager at GXI, highlights the team's objective of engaging with local developers, providing them with resources and tools to succeed, and publishing their titles on Xbox. Microsoft intends to offer indie devs the same tools and resources as its major partners, including access to Xbox Live experiences, devkits, and Azure credits. The company is also keen to address localization, recognizing the importance of tailored messaging and marketing in a diverse country like India. With the Indian gaming market projected to reach 700 million gamers by 2025, Microsoft is focused on bridging the gap between mobile and traditional gaming platforms through cross-platform tools. Varma advises developers to consider a cross-platform approach, incorporating mechanics that enable easy porting between consoles, PCs, and mobile devices. He also emphasizes the importance of careful planning when it comes to release windows, marketing strategies, and Game Pass adoption. With the rise of cloud gaming and AR/VR on the horizon, Varma is optimistic about Xbox's future in India and the opportunities available to developers and artists of all skill levels.
