Frontier Developments announced a historic set of financial results in its latest June trading update, highlighting a dramatic rise in adjusted operating profit for the fiscal year 2026. The company reported that adjusted operating profit climbed 62 percent year‑on‑year, reaching a record £21.4 million – the highest figure ever recorded in Frontier’s history. This impressive performance was attributed to a combination of strong market demand for its flagship titles, disciplined expense control, and the benefit of larger tax and expenditure credits.
The UK‑based studio emphasized that the underlying growth was even more striking once a one‑off £3.9 million gain from the sale of publishing rights in the previous financial year was excluded. Without that exceptional item, adjusted operating profit more than doubled compared with the prior year, underscoring the durability of Frontier’s core business model. Revenue also showed healthy expansion, rising 16 percent to £104.8 million. The bulk of this increase stemmed from continued success of the Jurassic World Evolution 3 franchise and the continued popularity of the Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo series, which together have built sizable, engaged player communities worldwide.
These titles have not only driven sales but also generated ongoing micro‑transaction revenue and expansion‑pack purchases, reinforcing the company’s recurring‑income streams. Operating profit, which includes a one‑off transitional tax credit of £4.4 million, grew an even more dramatic 97 percent to £25.0 million. Frontier’s management described this as evidence of “strong underlying trading performance” combined with the temporary tax benefit, and indicated that the underlying operating margin improvement reflects both higher top‑line sales and effective cost‑discipline across development, marketing and administrative functions. In addition to the financial highlights, Frontier announced several strategic leadership changes.
Dan Lazarides was appointed chief marketing officer in the previous month, bringing fresh perspective to the studio’s global brand and community outreach efforts. Founder and long‑time president David Braben will transition to a non‑executive director role on 1 October 2026, while retaining his titles as president and founder during the transition period. This shift is intended to free Braben to focus on high‑level oversight of the company’s game portfolio and long‑term strategic initiatives. Looking ahead, Frontier disclosed a new partnership agreement with Disney, under which the studio will develop and publish a new title that leverages Disney’s extensive intellectual property catalog.
While details remain under wraps, the collaboration signals Frontier’s ambition to broaden its audience reach and diversify its IP portfolio beyond its own creations. The product pipeline also includes several eagerly anticipated releases. Planet Zoo 2 is slated for launch on 13 October 2026, promising expanded wildlife management features, deeper ecosystem simulation, and enhanced multiplayer tools.
Another major title, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch, is scheduled to arrive before the close of FY27, targeting fans of the iconic tabletop universe with a tactical, squad‑based experience. Frontier is also advancing its internal content‑management‑system (CMS) gaming strategy. The studio is currently developing a new CMS‑based game built around its own intellectual property, which is described as being "in full development and on track." The goal is to deliver, on average, one CMS‑driven title each year, creating a steady stream of fresh content that can be updated and expanded over time, thereby extending the lifecycle of each game and deepening player engagement.
CEO Jo Cooke summed up the year’s achievements, stating: "FY26 was a landmark year for Frontier. We delivered record financial performance, demonstrated the strength of our CMS strategy, and continued to invest in the world‑class franchises our players love, supporting vibrant communities and long‑term engagement across our portfolio. With a strong balance sheet, a talented team, and an exciting roadmap ahead, we are well positioned to deliver sustainable growth, enduring player value, and long‑term returns for our stakeholders." President David Braben added his perspective, noting: "I am immensely proud of what our talented teams have achieved together since I founded Frontier in 1994, and excited about the opportunities ahead.
I have tremendous confidence in Jo as CEO to build on Frontier's strong foundations and deliver long‑term success, together with the excellent leadership team. This transition allows me to concentrate on what I can do to help that journey, including oversight of our games, and I look forward to continuing to support Frontier and Jo in the years to come." Overall, Frontier Developments’ FY26 results illustrate a robust combination of organic growth, strategic partnerships, and disciplined financial management. The company’s focus on expanding its flagship franchises, leveraging new IP collaborations, and investing in a sustainable CMS development pipeline positions it well for continued expansion and profitability in the highly competitive video‑game market.
