EGMNOW Ceases Operations

The video game publication EGMNOW has ceased operations. The news was announced via Twitter by associate editor Michael Goroff, who stated, "I was informed on Monday that EGMNOW is shutting down, resulting in my layoff." The site's editorial team included director Josh Harmon, executive editor Mollie L Patterson, and news editor Matthew Bennett. Although the site's owner has not issued an official statement regarding the closure, the final article was published on January 25. Originally, EGM shut down in 2009, but its founder, Steve Harris, acquired the rights and relaunched it in March 2010. The gaming media industry has been experiencing a surge in layoffs, with The Washington Post recently dismantling its gaming section. Other notable outlets, including IGN, Polygon, GameByte, Game Informer, Future, Fanbyte, Vice, and G4, have also undergone staff reductions in recent months. Last week, GameSpot and Giant Bomb experienced layoffs, followed by another round of firings at Vox Media, the parent company of Polygon. GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to EGMNOW for comment.
