Merriam-Webster Expands Its Gaming Portfolio with Quordle Acquisition
The popular online word game Quordle, similar to Wordle, has been purchased by Merriam-Webster, as reported by Rock Paper Shotgun. The Quordle Twitter account expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, "We couldn't have asked for a better fit for our game. Exciting updates and features are on the horizon, so be sure to stay tuned." Merriam-Webster has integrated Quordle into its website, where it is now available alongside other games like Blossom and Name That Thing, as well as a range of vocabulary-based quizzes. Quordle offers a unique spin on the traditional Wordle format, challenging players to guess four words simultaneously using nine attempts. The terms of the acquisition, including the purchase price, have not been disclosed. This move comes a year after the New York Times acquired Wordle for a reported 'low seven-figure' sum, and the subsequent acquisition of a similar mobile game by AppLovin.
