Crystal Dynamics to Discontinue Support for Marvel's Avengers

Crystal Dynamics has announced that it will be ending its support for Marvel's Avengers. This news was confirmed by the studio in a recent blog post, following a report by Exputer that had cited sources familiar with the matter. The final content update is scheduled to launch on March 31, 2023, with support officially concluding on September 30, 2023. The decision to end support was made in collaboration with the studio's partners, with Crystal Dynamics stating that now is the appropriate time for this change. Although support will be ending, both single-player and multiplayer gameplay will still be available. The Avengers' cosmetics marketplace will be shut down, but all items will be made available for free starting from March 31 as a gesture of appreciation to the community. Marvel's Avengers was initially released in September 2020 to mixed reviews, with critics praising the campaign but expressing disappointment with the game's overall ambitions. Despite this, the game managed to find an audience and topped the September 2020 charts in the US. However, Square Enix later confirmed that the title failed to meet expectations, and the game's launch was also marred by controversy surrounding its microtransactions. In May 2022, Square Enix sold Crystal Dynamics, along with Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, to Embracer for $300 million.
