Reed Hastings Steps Down as Netflix CEO After 25 Years

After a quarter century at the helm, Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has relinquished his position. Hastings will transition into an executive chairman role, while Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos will jointly lead the company as co-CEOs. According to Hastings, the decision to step down was made following the duo's impressive management of the company through challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic. "Their exceptional leadership has not only ensured Netflix's continued growth but also paved the way for renewed revenue and earnings expansion," Hastings stated. As part of the restructuring, Bela Bajaria has been named chief content officer and Scott Stuber has taken on the role of chairman of Netflix Film. This development comes on the heels of the company's acquisition of its sixth game studio, Spry Fox, and the establishment of new studios in Finland and Southern California, as well as the purchase of several game development studios, including Night School Studio, Next Games, and Boss Fight Entertainment.
