France Crowns Nintendo Switch as All-Time Best-Selling Console

The Nintendo Switch has achieved a milestone in France, becoming the best-selling console of all time in the country. According to a report by Le Figaro, the Switch has sold 7.09 million units in France since its launch in 2017, surpassing the previous record held by the Nintendo Wii, which sold 6.3 million units over the past decade. Handheld consoles were not included in this breakdown. In 2022, the Switch sold 987,000 units in France, making it the top-selling console for the year. Notably, one in every two consoles sold in France in 2022 was a Switch, with a quarter of French households now owning one. The Switch's popularity is further highlighted by its top-selling games, including Pokémon Violet and Scarlet, which combined sold 701,000 physical copies, and Pokémon Arceus, which sold 575,000 physical copies. Additionally, Mario Kart 8 has been a long-standing favorite, with over half of Switch owners purchasing the game over the years, and 445,000 physical copies sold in 2022 alone. The top-selling physical Switch games in France for 2022 include Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Pokémon Arceus, Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Switch Sports, Mario Strikers, Splatoon 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
