Frontier Developments announced a landmark set of financial results in its latest June trading update, highlighting a dramatic improvement in profitability and a strong outlook for the coming years. The company reported that adjusted operating profit for the fiscal year 2026 rose by an impressive 62 percent, reaching £21.4 million – the highest figure ever recorded in Frontier’s history. This surge in earnings reflects a combination of solid market performance, rigorous expense management, and the benefit of larger tax and expenditure credits that the studio has been able to capture. The UK‑based developer explained that the profit jump would have been even more striking if it were not for a one‑off £3.9 million gain recorded in the prior year when Frontier sold the publishing rights to a separate title.
Excluding that extraordinary item, the adjusted operating profit more than doubled on a year‑over‑year basis, underscoring the sustainable nature of the growth. Revenue also posted a healthy increase, climbing 16 percent to £104.8 million. The bulk of this top‑line expansion was driven by the continued success of several flagship franchises, most notably Jurassic World Evolution 3, Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo. These titles have maintained strong sales momentum and have attracted new players through regular updates, expansions and community‑focused events, helping to keep the revenue stream robust.
Operating profit, which includes a one‑off transitional tax credit of £4.4 million, surged 97 percent to £25.0 million. Frontier pointed out that this figure reflects not only the underlying strength of its trading performance but also the impact of the temporary tax credit, which will not be repeated in future periods.
Nevertheless, the underlying operating performance demonstrates that the company’s core business is thriving. In addition to the financial highlights, Frontier disclosed several strategic leadership changes. Dan Lazarides was appointed chief marketing officer in the previous month, bringing fresh perspective to the studio’s global marketing efforts. Founder and long‑time president David Braben will transition to a non‑executive director role on 1 October 2026, while retaining his title as president and continuing to provide strategic guidance.
This shift allows Braben to focus on broader oversight of the company’s game portfolio while delegating day‑to‑day operational responsibilities to CEO Jo Cooke and the senior leadership team. The update also revealed an important partnership with Disney.
Frontier recently signed an agreement to develop and publish a new game that will draw on Disney’s extensive intellectual property catalogue as well as Frontier’s own creative assets. The collaboration is expected to broaden Frontier’s audience reach and diversify its product pipeline. Looking ahead, the studio has a busy release schedule. Planet Zoo 2 is slated for launch on 13 October 2026, promising new features, expanded animal collections and deeper simulation mechanics for fans of the original.
Additionally, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch is on track for release before the close of FY27, adding a tactical, narrative‑driven experience to Frontier’s growing portfolio of licensed titles. Frontier is also advancing a long‑term content‑management‑system (CMS) strategy. The company is currently developing a new CMS‑based game built around its own intellectual property, which is "in full development and on schedule." The ambition is to deliver, on average, one CMS‑driven title each year, leveraging the flexibility of the platform to provide regular, high‑quality content updates and keep player communities engaged over extended periods.
CEO Jo Cooke summed up the year’s achievements, stating: "FY26 was a landmark year for Frontier. We delivered record financial performance, demonstrated the strength of our CMS strategy, and continued to invest in the world‑class franchises our players love, supporting vibrant communities and long‑term engagement across our portfolio.
With a strong balance sheet, a talented team, and an exciting roadmap ahead, we are well positioned to deliver sustainable growth, enduring player value, and long‑term returns for our stakeholders." President David Braben added his perspective, saying: "I am immensely proud of what our talented teams have achieved together since I founded Frontier in 1994, and excited about the opportunities ahead. I have tremendous confidence in Jo as CEO to build on Frontier's strong foundations and deliver long‑term success, together with the excellent leadership team. This transition allows me to concentrate on what I can do to help that journey, including oversight of our games, and I look forward to continuing to support Frontier and Jo in the years to come." Overall, Frontier Developments’ FY26 results paint a picture of a company that has successfully combined creative excellence with disciplined financial management.
The combination of strong franchise performance, strategic partnerships, and a clear roadmap for future releases positions the studio to continue its upward trajectory and to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the gaming market.
