Global Mobile Gaming Revenue Sees 5% Decline to $110 Billion in 2022

According to a report by Data.ai, the global mobile gaming market experienced a 5% year-over-year decline in revenue, reaching $110 billion in 2022. The State of Mobile 2023 report highlights this downward trend in consumer spending on mobile games. China dominated the market with $42.4 billion in spending, followed by the US with $24.02 billion, Japan with $13.1 billion, South Korea with $5.28 billion, and Germany with $2.47 billion. Despite the decline in spending, mobile game downloads saw an 8% increase to 90 billion worldwide, with hypercasual games leading the charge with 17.5 billion downloads. China accounted for the largest share of mobile game downloads at 31.43 billion, followed by India with 9.65 billion, Brazil with 4.62 billion, the US with 4.57 billion, and Indonesia with 3.45 billion. In terms of genres, RPGs such as Genshin Impact led the way in revenue, generating $25.5 billion globally. Strategy games followed with $12.1 billion, match games with $8.7 billion, and casino games with $8.3 billion. The report also revealed that Honor of Kings, Genshin Impact, and Candy Crush Saga were the top three highest-grossing mobile games of 2022.
