The Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) has revealed the inaugural roster for its Supernova incubation initiative, naming fifteen game‑development studios out of a pool of more than 260 applicants. This marks a significant milestone for the Indian gaming ecosystem, as the association seeks to nurture nascent talent and accelerate the growth of home‑grown studios. Supernova, which launched in July 2026, is a three‑month intensive program designed to provide participating studios with a blend of mentorship, technical resources, and strategic introductions.

Throughout the incubation period, each studio will receive guidance from seasoned industry veterans, access to valuable credits from technology and distribution partners, and curated networking opportunities with potential investors and publishing houses. The culmination of the program will be a high‑visibility Demo Day, scheduled to take place during this year’s India Game Developers Conference (IGDC), where the cohort will have the chance to pitch their projects to a broader audience. The initiative is delivered in collaboration with a roster of prominent partners, including global gaming giant Tencent, the Indian mobile distribution platform Indus Appstore, IVIPRO, SpielFabrique, Mintegral, and Lakshya Digital. Indus Appstore, in particular, has pledged to give the selected studios "priority onboarding and ad credits to kick‑start user acquisition," ensuring that developers can quickly reach early adopters and gather crucial market feedback.

"The selection of this inaugural cohort marks the beginning of a focused journey for these 15 studios," said Rajan Navani, a board member and chairperson of GDAI's Incubation Subcommittee. "Over the next three months, Supernova will bring together mentors, technology partners, publishers and investors to help each studio address its specific development and business priorities." Navani emphasized that the program is not a one‑size‑fits‑all solution; rather, it is tailored to the unique challenges each studio faces, whether that be refining gameplay mechanics, optimizing monetisation strategies, or scaling server infrastructure.

The fifteen chosen studios are: - Absurd Games - Team Quasar - AbhiTech Games - Konkan Coast Studios - Dunali Games - Chitrakala Interactive - Ashdev Studios - Compiling Shaders - Brahman Studios - Yaari Games - Funwave Studio - Arcadon Games - Shivaansh Artvision - AnonVision Creative Labs - Parkince These studios represent a diverse cross‑section of the Indian gaming landscape, ranging from indie developers focused on narrative‑driven experiences to teams building competitive multiplayer titles. By providing a shared platform for collaboration, Supernova aims to foster cross‑pollination of ideas, encouraging studios to learn from each other's successes and setbacks. Beyond the immediate benefits for the cohort, GDAI sees Supernova as a strategic component of its broader mission.

The association currently represents more than 200 member studios and is actively engaged in talent development, international outreach, and policy advocacy. One of its long‑term objectives is to cultivate a pipeline of skilled professionals who can sustain the industry's growth.

To that end, GDAI hopes to reach over 25,000 students across the country through educational initiatives, workshops, and mentorship programs. The partnership with Tencent brings additional weight to the program.

As a leader in both game publishing and cloud services, Tencent can offer technical insights into areas such as live‑ops, user retention, and data‑driven design. Meanwhile, Mintegral's expertise in mobile advertising will help studios craft effective user‑acquisition campaigns, an essential component for success in India's highly competitive mobile market. For many of the selected studios, participation in Supernova could be a turning point.

Absurd Games, for example, has been developing a sci‑fi adventure that blends procedural generation with player‑driven storytelling. Access to industry mentors could accelerate their prototype's polish and help them secure publishing deals. Similarly, Team Quasar, which is working on a multiplayer arena shooter, stands to benefit from Tencent's experience in scaling server infrastructure and managing large‑scale live events.

The program also addresses a critical gap in funding. While several Indian studios have secured seed capital, many still struggle to bridge the gap between prototype and commercial release. By connecting developers with potential investors during the Demo Day, Supernova creates a conduit for capital infusion, enabling studios to move beyond the pre‑revenue stage.

In addition to financial and technical support, the incubation experience includes workshops on topics such as intellectual property protection, regulatory compliance, and global market entry strategies. These sessions are designed to equip founders with the knowledge needed to navigate the complex landscape of game publishing, both domestically and internationally. Overall, the launch of Supernova signals a concerted effort by GDAI and its partners to elevate India's gaming sector onto the world stage.

By providing a structured, resource‑rich environment for emerging studios, the program aims to accelerate the development of high‑quality games that can compete globally while also resonating with local audiences. The upcoming Demo Day at IGDC will serve as a showcase of the cohort's progress and a testament to the collaborative spirit driving India's gaming renaissance.
