Extension of French Tax Relief Scheme for Video Games Until 2028

France has prolonged its tax credit initiative for video game development by six years, now set to expire on December 31, 2028, as announced by Minister for Digital Transition Jean-Noël Barrot during Paris Game Week. The eligibility criteria have been revised for greater accessibility and efficiency, with added emphasis on novel concepts, technological innovation, and projects showcasing European heritage or identity. Since its launch in 2008, the scheme has backed over 370 projects from 150 studios, offering a 30% tax rebate on development expenses. From 2017 to present, French studios have received more than €220 million through this initiative, with 38 projects benefiting from €43 million in tax rebates in 2021 alone.
