Former Square Enix Employees Arrested for Alleged Insider Trading
A pair of ex-Square Enix staff members have been taken into custody on suspicion of insider trading. According to reports from VGC, via Automaton, the individuals purchased shares in the Japanese gaming studio Aiming prior to its announcement of a new Dragon Quest project. It is alleged that the former employees leveraged their internal knowledge to acquire shares with the intention of selling them at an inflated price later on. In a statement, Square Enix said, "We are currently cooperating with an investigation by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office to determine the facts of the matter." The company also expressed regret over the incident, stating, "We apologize for the concern this has caused and are taking severe measures, including disciplinary action against the former employee involved."
