Germany's Games Fund Allocation Boosted to €70 Million
Germany's federal parliament has approved a significant increase in the national budget for the video game industry, bringing the total allocation to €70 million. Initially introduced in 2020, the fund provides financial support to game developers, covering up to 50% of their development costs. The program has yielded impressive results, with a 26% growth in game companies and a 12% rise in employment within the industry. In response to this growth, the government has increased its support by €20 million for 2023. According to the German Games Industry Association, the initiative will require an annual budget of €100 million to sustain its momentum. Felix Falk, managing director of game, welcomed the additional funding, stating, 'This increased allocation sends a strong message and will enable Germany to maintain its pursuit of becoming a leading hub for game development.'
