Singapore to Host Inaugural Olympic Esports Week

The International Olympic Committee has confirmed that Singapore will host the first-ever Olympic Esports Week from June 22 to June 25. This groundbreaking event will feature the inaugural live finals of the Olympic Esports Series, building upon the success of the 2021 virtual competition, which drew 250,000 players from 100 countries. The in-person event will showcase a range of virtual sports, including baseball, cycling, racing, rowing, and sailing. Additionally, attendees can expect to experience the latest technology, engaging panel discussions, educational sessions, and exhibition matches. Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Sport Singapore, and the Singapore National Olympic Committee, this event marks a significant step forward in the IOC's efforts to support the growth of virtual sports within the Olympic Movement. According to IOC President Thomas Bach, 'The first Olympic Esports Week represents a major milestone in our quest to promote virtual sports. We are excited about the new format, which includes live finals for the first time, and we look forward to collaborating with esports players to create new opportunities for both players and fans. Partnering with Singapore, a nation known for its innovative spirit and its successful hosting of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010, is a perfect fit for this endeavor.'
