Gearbox Shanghai Emerges from Eidos Shanghai Rebranding

Gearbox Entertainment has expanded its operations with the rebranding of Eidos Shanghai to Gearbox Studio Shanghai, marking a significant addition to its global presence. The studio's leadership will remain unchanged, with Gigi Ning, formerly at the helm of Eidos Shanghai, continuing as general manager of Gearbox Studio Shanghai, reporting to Gearbox Publishing's San Francisco office. According to Yoon Im, president of Gearbox Publishing San Francisco, "China boasts an abundance of skilled industry professionals, and I am confident that Gearbox Studio Shanghai will play a pivotal role in driving our international expansion efforts." The acquisition enhances Gearbox's capacity to engage with the Chinese market and collaborate with emerging local development studios. Both Eidos Shanghai and Gearbox Entertainment became part of the Embracer Group through separate acquisitions in recent years, with Eidos Shanghai being acquired as part of a $300 million deal and Gearbox Entertainment being acquired for $1.3 billion in 2021. Initially established in 2008 to provide outsourcing services for Eidos' Western studios, Eidos Shanghai has now transitioned into Gearbox Studio Shanghai.
