Scavengers Set to Cease Operations in December
The free-to-play multiplayer shooter Scavengers is scheduled to shut down by the end of the year. In a statement on the game's website, Improbable announced that the servers for Scavengers will be closed on December 16, 2022, due to a decline in the player base. According to the company, despite exploring various options to boost server population during the game's early access phase, it became apparent that continuing development and live service was no longer viable. The team expressed pride in their accomplishments and gratitude to all players who participated, regardless of the duration. Initially released in early access in May 2021, Scavengers was developed by Midwinter Entertainment, a studio founded by former Halo developers that was acquired by Improbable in September 2019. Following Improbable's decision to sell Midwinter to Behaviour Interactive earlier this year, the focus shifted towards the metaverse, leading to the cancellation of console versions and the maintenance of the PC version by a smaller team within Improbable.
