Roblox Sees 2% Revenue Increase as Quarterly Losses Reach $300 Million

Roblox has released its quarterly earnings report for the period ending September 30, showcasing continued growth despite significant increases in losses. Key financial highlights include a 2% year-on-year increase in net revenue to $518 million and a 10% rise in bookings to $702 million. However, the company's net loss widened to $302 million from $74 million in the same quarter last year. This shift is partly due to a change in the company's reporting process, which now defers more revenue to future quarters. Roblox CEO David Baszucki noted that the company expects to report net losses for the foreseeable future due to its investment strategy based on non-GAAP bookings. Despite this, the platform saw a 24% year-over-year increase in daily active users to 58.8 million and a 16% rise in monthly unique payers to a record 12.9 million. The company observed a shift in its user demographics, with 46% of daily active users now under the age of 13, compared to 61% in 2019. Baszucki expressed optimism about the company's future, highlighting plans to continue hiring and introducing new features such as limited edition items created by users. This move aims to establish a more realistic in-game economy with high-priced items, similar to those found in the real world.
