Frontier Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Complex Games

Frontier, a prominent game developer and publisher, has finalized the acquisition of Canadian-based Complex Games for a sum not publicly disclosed. As the creative force behind Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, which was released in May under the Frontier Foundry label, Complex Games brings a wealth of experience to the table. This acquisition marks a significant milestone for the UK-based company, representing its first foray into studio acquisition. Frontier has expressed its intention to continue pursuing opportunities that will further expand its resources and capabilities. According to Jonny Watts, CEO of Frontier Developments, "The launch of our third-party publishing strategy in 2019 sparked our interest in potentially acquiring our development partners. Our collaboration with Complex Games on Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters has been outstanding, and we are thrilled to welcome Noah Decter-Jackson, CEO, and his team to the Frontier family, with plans to enhance and diversify our development team in Manitoba, Canada." In a recent development, David Braben, Frontier's founder and former CEO, stepped down from his role in August, after leading the company since its inception in 1994. He continues to serve as the company's president and founder. Update: Frontier has disclosed that the acquisition involved an initial cash payment of £8.3 million, with the potential for an additional £3.3 million contingent upon the company's performance.
