Cloudpunk Dominates at the First Ever Scottish Games Awards
The inaugural Scottish Games Awards ceremony took place recently, marking the beginning of Scottish Games Week. A judging panel comprising industry experts, led by Chris Scullion, features editor at VGC and author, determined the winners. Cloudpunk, developed by Ion Lands, emerged as the standout winner, claiming three prestigious awards: Art and Animation, Best Large-Budget Game, and Creativity. Notably, although Ion Lands is a German studio, Cloudpunk's lead writer, Tom Welsh, hails from Scotland. Other notable winners include SOLAS 128 by Amicable Animal, which won the Audio award, The Baby in Yellow by Team Terrible, which took home the Best Small-Budget Game award, and From The Depths by Brilliant Skies, which received the Technical Achievement award. The ceremony also honored several prominent figures in the industry, including Dr. Lynn Love, who was named Best Educator, Tanya Laird, creator of VR Writer's Room, who received the Diversity Champion award, and Lemmings creator David Jones, who was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award. Additionally, the Community Spirit Award, established in memory of Just Add Water founder Stewart Gilray, was awarded to Colin MacDonald, organizer of Games Talks Live.
