Capcom's First-Half Earnings Plummet Due to Challenging Year-over-Year Comparison

Capcom has released its financial report for the first half of the fiscal year, spanning from April 1 to September 30, revealing significant declines in revenue and profits. The company's revenue stood at ¥49.1 billion, representing a 30% decrease from the previous year, while operating income and net income dropped by 24% and 27%, respectively, to ¥21.9 billion and ¥16.1 billion. Capcom attributes these declines to a tough comparison with the previous year's first half, which saw the successful launches of Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. In contrast, the biggest launch of the current first half was Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, a premium expansion for Monster Hunter: Rise, which sold 4.4 million copies. The original Monster Hunter Rise has now sold 11 million copies, putting it on the cusp of surpassing Resident Evil 7 as the publisher's second-best-selling title, behind only Monster Hunter World. Despite the revenue decline, Capcom's digital contents business reported an 8% increase in unit sales, reaching 21.3 million. The company's arcade operations division saw a 30% year-over-year increase in revenue, while operating income rose more than ninefold. However, the other business category, which includes the live-action Resident Evil series on Netflix, experienced a 9% decline in revenue and an 8% drop in operating income.
