Microsoft Undergoes Restructuring, Resulting in Widespread Job Cuts
Microsoft has implemented a significant reduction in its workforce, impacting hundreds of employees across various departments. According to sources cited by Business Insider, the number of affected staff is less than 1,000. Notably, some of those let go had been with the company for only a short period, with one employee reporting they had been hired just a month prior. This move follows the company's July announcement that it would be laying off less than 1% of its approximately 180,000 employees and scaling back its recruitment efforts in anticipation of an economic downturn. It remains unclear whether these recent layoffs are part of the previously announced plans. A Microsoft spokesperson stated, "As with all companies, we regularly assess our business priorities and make necessary structural adjustments." The spokesperson also emphasized the company's commitment to investing in its business and hiring in key areas of growth. Reports on social media and information from Business Insider's sources indicate that the Xbox division has been affected, although the exact number of job losses is unknown. Additionally, Studio Alpha, the team responsible for developing war-gaming simulations, is expected to face significant cuts as part of the Microsoft Mission Engineering department's decision to deprioritize certain ongoing projects. In an email, Mission Engineering head Zach Kramer noted that the company must make difficult decisions due to limited resources and the pressing nature of time.
