Take-Two Announces Closure of Playdots Studio
Take-Two has confirmed the shutdown of its New York-based mobile game development studio, Playdots, resulting in the layoff of 65 employees. According to a report by Bloomberg, an advance notice of the layoffs was filed with the New York State Department of Labor. Playdots is best known for developing the popular mobile games Dots and Two Dots. Despite the studio's closure, Take-Two has assured that the development of Two Dots will continue at a Zynga studio. The company has also announced that affected Playdots staff members will have the opportunity to apply for positions at Zynga, and those who are unable to secure new roles will be eligible for severance packages. In a statement, Take-Two expressed that this decision will enable the company to better allocate its resources in response to the current market landscape. The closure comes nearly two years after Take-Two acquired Playdots for $192 million in 2020.
