State of Survival Developers Face Lawsuit Over Alleged Deceptive Pricing

A recent lawsuit has been filed against Funplus International and KingsGroup Holdings, accusing the companies of deceiving players of the mobile game State of Survival with misleading pricing strategies. According to a report by Top Class Actions, the complaint claims that the companies have been advertising limited-time discounts next to fictional regular prices that were never actually charged to users. The lawsuit, filed in a California federal court on September 2, alleges that this practice has been ongoing for years. The complaint points out that the companies advertised discounts of up to 99%, with bundles priced at $9.99 being claimed to have a usual price of $997.40. Additionally, marketing tactics included warnings of scarcity, such as 'only one remaining', to create a sense of urgency among consumers, despite there being no actual shortages. The lawsuit states that these advertisements have been running for years, but the in-game items were never sold at the non-discounted price. The companies' alleged misleading practices have been taking place since the game's launch in 2019, during which time it has been downloaded over 150 million times, with a PC version reportedly in development.
