2K Customer Support Platform Taken Offline Following Unauthorized Access

October 11, 2022 Update: 2K has revealed that a cyber attack on its customer support platform in September led to the compromise of certain user data, which was then offered for sale. In an email notification to affected users, the company provided an FAQ section explaining the extent of the breach and recommended steps to take. According to 2K, an unauthorized party gained access to the login credentials of one of its vendors, allowing them to breach the help desk platform used for customer support. The compromised data included email addresses, help desk ID numbers, gamertags, and console information. However, 2K stated that there is no indication that any financial information or passwords stored on its systems were accessed. The company also believes that no financial data was obtained or copied during the breach. In a statement on September 21, 2022, 2K initially announced that its customer support platform had been accessed by an unauthorized party. The company warned users via Twitter about a malicious link sent by the unauthorized party and advised them to reset their passwords if they had clicked on the link. 2K's message cautioned users not to open any emails or click on links from the 2K Games support account and apologized for the inconvenience. The support portal remained offline while the issue was being addressed, with 2K promising to notify users when it was safe to resume interacting with official help desk emails and providing additional guidance on protecting against malicious activity.
