Last month, Splatoon 3 emerged as the top-selling game in Japan, with a remarkable 2.7 million physical copies sold following its launch on September 9, according to the latest data from Famitsu. Nintendo had previously reported that Splatoon 3 sold a combined 3.45 million physical and digital copies in Japan within just three days, making it the fastest-selling Switch game in the company's home market. It also secured the franchise's first number one spot in the UK retail charts. The game's sales significantly surpassed those of the next biggest release, Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline, even when combining sales across all three console versions. Another new entry in the top 10 was Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival, which debuted at number eight. Other new releases that made it into the rankings included JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness, and The Last of Us Part 1. In total, 3.9 million boxed games were sold in Japan last month, with Splatoon 3 accounting for 69% of all sales. Nintendo titles alone accounted for over three million sales, marking the seventh consecutive month as the top-selling publisher. The Switch was the best-selling console, with 3.5 million games sold, representing 91% of total sales, and nearly 500,000 consoles sold, led by the OLED Model with 367,000 units. The success of Splatoon 3's launch has boosted the Switch's install base in Japan to over 26 million. The top 10 best-selling physical games in Japan for September 2022, according to Famitsu, were: Splatoon 3, Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports, Minecraft: Switch Edition, Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival, Earth Defence Force 6, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
