EA Introduces New Desktop Application to Succeed Origin

The EA desktop application, designed to replace the Origin platform, is now available for download. This new, enhanced PC platform, simply called the EA app, marks the beginning of the end for Origin, which was launched in 2011. Users can expect a seamless transfer of their games, content, progress, achievements, cloud saves, friends lists, and other Origin account data to the new EA app. The EA app can be downloaded from EA's official website, and Origin users will be prompted to install the new launcher through the app, after which Origin will be automatically uninstalled from their devices. Although the update will be promoted on Windows PCs as part of the phase-out process, Mac users will still need to use the Origin for Mac application. This development follows EA's 2020 decision to merge its EA Access and Origin Access Basic services into a single entity, now known as EA Play, and rebrand Origin Access Premier as EA Play Pro.
