Vice Experiences Significant Staff Reduction

Vice, a prominent media company, has undergone a series of layoffs this week, affecting its Waypoint and Motherboard divisions. Notable departures include former Motherboard writers Gita Jackson and Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai, as well as Rachel Pick, who served as audience development manager. Both Franceschi-Bicchierai and Pick had dedicated seven years to working across Waypoint and Motherboard, while Jackson joined Motherboard in 2020. These layoffs are part of a larger trend of redundancies in the games media sector over the past few weeks. Similar cutbacks have occurred at Future Publishing, despite strong revenue forecasts, and at Fanbyte Media, which is owned by Tencent. Additionally, G4TV reportedly let go of between 20 and 30 staff members last month, as reported by Kotaku. Earlier in July, Vox Media also reduced its workforce by 39 employees across multiple publications, including the gaming site Polygon, citing economic uncertainty as the reason.
