Cyberpunk 2077 Sees Surge in Active Players to 1 Million Following Netflix Anime Release and Edgerunners Update

The developer of Cyberpunk 2077 has announced a significant increase in the game's daily player count, reaching one million active players. This milestone was shared on the game's official Twitter account, where the developer expressed gratitude to both new and returning players. The recent surge is attributed to the release of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series on Netflix, produced in collaboration with Japanese animation studio Trigger, and the corresponding Edgerunners update, which introduced various fixes, new features, and cross-platform progression. Following a troubled launch in 2020 due to numerous technical issues, particularly on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, CD Projekt has worked to rectify these problems. The studio released a next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in February, resolving the majority of the game's issues. Additionally, a story expansion titled Phantom Liberty is in development, slated for release on PC and current-gen consoles. During a recent investor call, CD Projekt's vice president of business development, Michał Nowakowski, stated that while only one major expansion is currently planned, the studio is committed to further developing the Cyberpunk IP, exploring new stories, experiences, and content beyond video games.
